The YWCA Women's Triathlon is committed to sustainability and to offsetting their carbon footprint through donations to the MN Project.
The 2010 YWCA Women's Triathlon has taken the Pledge of Sustainability, sponsored by Athletes for a Fit Planet, wherein we have committed to: Reducing paper waste Recycling Champoning carpooling, public transportation and alternative means of transportation Providing eco-friendly apparel Creating and participating in a shoe recycling program Banning plastic water bottles at the finish line Using online communications and marketing Offering optional carbon offsets for athlete travel As part of this pledge, the YWCA Women's Tri has created a donation partnership with the Minnesota Project, a nonprofit that champions the sustainable production and equitable distribution of energy and food in communities across Minnesota. The Minnesota Project's programs are focused on the development, conservation and efficient use of renewable energy; farm practice and policy that promote profitable farms that protect and replenish the environment; and the production and consumption of local, sustainably grown foods. Through collaborative leadership, the MN Project demonstrates practical solutions as a basis for future policy. Since 1978, it has fostered local empowerment, bridged diverse interests, encouraged shared values, and initiated working dialogues that create positive action and policy. MN Project Program highlights include: Agricultural Energy Efficiency, Fruits of the City urban fruit gleaning initiative, and the Heartland Food Network.
