We are dedicated to keeping these beautiful parrots safe and flying free in the wild. Please help us today!

On one Indonesian island, the population of Yellow-crested Cockatoos sits at eleven

The Yellow-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea) is critically endangered in the wild, with a world population optimistically at 2500. The primary threats to this species are the wild bird trade and large-scale logging. To a lesser extent, conversion of forest to agriculture and the use of pesticides are exacerbating the decline.

The World Parrot Trust, along with partner Indonesian Parrot Project (IPP) are working to save this species from extinction. They will:

  • establish and maintain rigorous standards for rehabilitation and release of parrots caught in the trade
  • maintain a centre of excellence for the same
  • continue research and census work
  • enforce local legislation regarding the trade in wild birds on Masakambing
  • maintain an wildlife education and pride programme for local people

Why we need your help?
