We organize film screenings, lectures, presentations & workshops. THANKS TO YOUR SUPPORT, all our events are free and open to the public!
In our short existence as a nonprofit serving the people of Minnesota, we have organized, hosted, and sponsored hundreds of film screenings, lectures, presentations, workshops, conferences, and the interactive exhibit called "Camp Darfur."
In just the past year, we have brought these speakers to the Twin Cities: Carl Wilkens, the only American to stay in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide; Col. Romeo Dallaire, head of the UN peacekeeping troop in Rwanda in 1994; Suzanne Koepplinger, who works on behalf of Native American women; Mark Hanis, founder and president of Genocide Intervention Network; Dr. Hermann Goltz, Armenian genocide scholar; Dr. Guy Stern, "Ritchie boy" soldier during WWII; Father Patrick Desbois, author of "The Holocaust by Bullets; and many more.
Films we have screened in just Fall 2009 include: The Devil Came on Horseback; Genocide Again: Darfur; Trapped Inside Burma, “Burma Diary”; Journey to Freedom: Rescue During the Holocaust; The Deadliest Silence: Rape in the Congo; The Holocaust and The Ritchie Boys; The Rape of Europa; Schindler's List; The Killing Fields, and many more!
Day-long workshops from this fall included: The Faces of Genocide: Bosnia and the Holocaust; Genocide and Gender-Based Violence: The Holocaust, Darfur, and Native Americans; Rape in the Congo: A Legacy of Genocide.
Camp Darfur, an interactive exhibit, brings to life the five historical genocides of the 20th century as well as the ongoing genocide in Darfur. Documentarians Katie Jay Scott and Gabriel Stauring, who film life in the Darfuri refugee camps in Chad, accompany the exhibit and speak about the conditions in a refugee camp. This fall Camp Darfur traveled to five different high schools and colleges in the Twin Cities area; the exhibit was viewed by thousands of students.
Your generous financial support makes these events possible, and it keeps them free and open to the public.
Not only do we encourage you to donate to World Without Genocide, but we would also love to see you at our events!
