Winthrop Area Foundation is a permanent endowment working to benefit and meet the community’s needs and interests now and into the future.
The Winthrop Area Foundation has had an impact on the entire community, with grants going to local organizations that serve a nearly every segment of the population. Grant recipients have included: The Winthrop Alumni Association, Winthrop Historical Society, Early Childhood Education, Winthrop General Federation of Women, Santa’s Helpers, Winthrop Library Friends and Winthrop Emergency Management.
The most high profile project for the Winthrop Area Foundation in 2011 has been the “Welcome to Winthrop” Sign Project. We are proud to say that we have designated our grant funds for the year toward this project, and we spearheaded the effort to raise the remaining funds throughout the community. Through a cooperative effort and donations from many organizations, construction should begin in the spring of 2012, with new signs at both ends of town.
