HAITIANS helping HAITI
For the past 18 years of my life I have watched my
mother… a beautiful strong independent Haitian woman, be a blessing in the lives of not only myself and brother, but also for everyone and anyone who has gotten to cross paths with her. And she is just one person.
A single mother, just one person, she is raising an autistic child.
A sole provider, just one person, she works to give her daughter a chance at college.
A Christian, just one person, she prays for all those who cannot pray for themselves.
This has led me to the realization that “just one person” can make a difference in the world simply by living out the life God has called them to live. I follow her example and do just that…
God has led me to the opportunity to join the Haiti mission trip of my college, Gordon College, through which I will not only experience for the first time the country my mother and family originated from, but also give back to the people of God who are still there through my acts of service.
The difference I strive to make is not big in the grand scheme of things but it is big in my heart. As just one person, I seek to bring something positive to life of another, and pray that he/she carry on the trend…
Rebuilding Haiti seems to me like a very good place to start.
It is my first mission’s trip and the location touched my heart dearly. I know personally of many people who suffered the pain of the earthquake, and my family is no exception. I just want to give back in any way I can, whether it is by rebuilding houses, or just having a meaningful conversation.
I want to be someone who helps makes a difference. I’ve always felt passionate about giving back to my global community and here i am getting a chance to do just that.
