Wellspring Foundation for Education
A US registered nonprofit
Wellspring was founded in 2003 by Jeffery Komant and Richard Taylor. Richard and Jeff both grew up in Africa and became close friends at Trinity Western University, where they received their degrees in International Development.
Wellspring started in response to the vision of Rwandan Christians who desired to see an education in Rwanda that would help the next generation to heal. They believed that the church had an incredible opportunity through quality Christian education to raise forgiven and reconciled leaders who could impact their society.
In August 2004, Wellspring began building a model Christian school in Rwanda called the Wellspring Academy. The Wellspring Academy opened in January 2007. Since 2004, Wellspring’s involvement in education has expanded to include the support of several schools and hundreds of teachers through its teacher training program. Wellspring was recognized with the RL Peterson Award for Innovation in acknowledgement of its efforts.
Since 2004, Wellspring has offered training and support to hundreds of Rwandan teachers, established a Professional Development Center, developed a model Christian school called the Wellspring Academy, supported the growth of the Association of Committed Teachers (ACT) Rwanda, and launched an innovative new community-focused solution for school transformation called the Whole School Development Program.
