#WaterWrites Hawaii Fund

Aloha Family,

I'm reaching out to my network for support. I am starting a small fundraiser for an incredible grassroots, environmental arts project in Hawaii that I am currently helping with called #WaterWrites - founded by graffiti artist, Estria Miyashiro of the Estria Foundation (www.estria.org).

"#WaterWrites is a series of 10 collaborative mural projects in 10 cities across the globe. The theme of water connects the participating communities and documents the current local and international water crisis. Through our collective creative process, we engage youth, artists, organizers, and environmental activists to create imagery which reflects the relationship between the people and the water of each area. Community members are invited to a public paint day and able to participate in bringing these ideas into reality. The final murals are accessible to view by the public and also to communities across the world through video documentation and the Internet. We hope to spark discussions and cross collaboration between the participating cities and water warriors across the world."

We are currently in need of $1100 to complete the budget for the #WaterWrites Hawaii mural and the "#WaterWrites Hawaii Mural Unveiling" event - to take place this Thursday, July 7th, 2011 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The mural and event is a gift, dedicated to the Native Hawaiian Community and their vision for the development of a sustainable future. The event itself is free and will feature local Hawaiian musicians, artists, traditional dancers, dj's, speakers, educational vendors and organizations, activity booths, food trucks, and Hawaii's Governor Neil Abercrombie. Any amount greatly appreciated, and is contributing toward a very big and important gift to all of Hawaii. Each mural takes weeks to a month to complete. So far there have been #WaterWrites murals completed in Los Angeles and Oakland, and now, I am honored to be helping with the 3rd mural project in Honolulu, representing Hawaii. In collaboration with 808 Urban, #WaterWrites Hawaii is now Hawaii's newest and largest mural, measuring 4000 square feet. Next, Estria will be headed to Palestine to forward on the 4th #WaterWrites mural.
