Global Volunteers, founded in 1984, is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian, non-governmental organization engaging short-term volunteers on micro-economic and human development programs in close partnership with local people worldwide. More than 250 volunteer teams annually support development partnerships in more than 100 host communities through on-going volunteer assistance, direct project funding and child sponsorships.

Volunteers work on locally initiated projects that include teaching conversational English, caring for at-risk children, constructing and repairing community buildings and facilities, working to develop and promote natural resource conservation, and assisting with medical care. Supplemental funding assists with building supplies, educational materials, health care assistance, children's clothes and bedding, clean water equipment, garden and landscaping resources and the like.
