Your donations will support our mission to love and support children in Nicaragua by providing them with daily meals and necessities.
My name is Sarah Huffman and I am a senior at Virginia Tech. This spring, I was so blessed to have been given a second opportunity to travel to Nicaragua. Reflecting back on this trip, I simply cannot put into words how much love I have for this country. The children I developed relationships with over the past few years are the most beautiful, humble, and generous people I have ever come to know. Despite adversity, they carry themselves with joy, and attempt to give what little they have to others.
Going back to Nicaragua this year was the one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am committed to helping these kids even while I am back at home. My first step is participating in the Compassion Diet this week (March 19th- March 26th).
What is the Compassion Diet?
The definition of compassion is simply this: to suffer with. For one week, the Virginia Tech Nicaraguan Orphan Fund will commit to eat a diet of only rice and beans, the basic diet of the malnourished Nicaraguan child. This way, we will spend a week in Blacksburg really "suffering with" the children we have come to know and love in Nicaragua. During this time, we will be working to raise awareness and funds to feed the children of Nueva Vida.
Your money will be going to an area of extreme poverty, lack of health care, unemployment, violence, and hunger. This suffering often hits the children of Nueva Vida the hardest and money already donated is helping to support feeding centers to support the children. These feeding centers are a glimmer of hope in this community. This one meal is often the only meal that child will get all day.
I am asking for your support during this week of compassion in order to help the community that has deeply touched my life. These children gave me so much in the little time I spent in Nicaragua, and I want to give back to them as much as I am able.
I will forever be appreciative of your support! Thank you so much for your sponsorship in this week of compassion. God Bless!
