Mission

Two pieces of feedback we've received: "The number and variety of horrible abuses perpetuated against animals in this society is mind-boggling, but to remedy them, the 'bottom line' is not to base one's entire lifestyle and subsistence on their slaughter in short, stop using animals for food, clothing, entertainment, etc. Your booklet gets this message across very well!" "Thanks for producing the tool which will one day end animal exploitation!"

Programs

No lasting, fundamental progress will be made towards a compassionate world until animals are no longer seen as food. Although most people express revulsion at the suffering of other animals, they still eat and wear animals and animal products. Instead of treating the symptoms, it is necessary to cure the disease itself: the view that animals are our tools. This view stems directly from society's distance from the animals we use and abuse. This remoteness allows otherwise thoughtful, caring people to believe that animals do not suffer in agriculture or other industries. Experience has shown that many compassionate people change their habits once they receive documented, detailed, and helpful information about the realities behind animal agriculture. VO reaches these people with Why Vegan and Try Vegetarian distribution by local activists at colleges, high schools, walk-a-thons, music concerts, peace and environmental conferences, health food stores, record stores, coffee shops, etc.
Vegan Outreach has a new Adopt a College program to promote the distribution of vegetarian information at www.veganhealth.org/colleges.
