Provide Health Services for 6000 Rural Peruvians - USF and Cornell
A project of Nourish International
This project will complete phase two of the Bello Horizonte Health Clinic, allowing for its opening this fall to serve nearly 6000 clients.
What is the problem, issue, or challenge?
In Peru, extreme poverty, infrastructural barriers, and the scarcity of health facilities make accessing health services extremely difficult, especially in rural parts of the country. As a result, the rates of infant mortality, maternal mortality, parasitic disease-related death and other treatable and preventable deaths are among the highest in Latin America.
How will this project solve this problem?
Phase two of the Bello Horizonte Health Clinic will involve the addition of several rooms that will complete the first floor of the clinic, allowing for its opening this fall. This community-based, community-run clinic will provide nearly 6000 Peruvians in the Moche Valley with free and subsidized primary health care services. Offered alongside these health services, there will also be educational workshops that will empower individuals and families to make healthy decisions and maintain healthy lifestyles.
What will be the long-term impact of this project?
The opening of the Bello Horizonte Health Clinic will result in an enhanced standard of living along with creating new job opportunities in the Moche Valley. Most importantly, it will ensure that thousands of Peruvians will have consistent, reliable and affordable access to primary health care.
