Sunnyside Church and University Park Church are progressive, Reconciling Congregations in the United Methodist Church. Rev. Currie, a United Church of Christ minister, serves as the minister of both these congregations through an ecumenical agreement between the Oregon-Idaho Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Central Pacific Conference of the United Church of Christ.
University Park Church, located at 4775 N. Lombard, worships Sunday morning at 9:30 am. The congregation is known as a place of radical hospitality and has been a beacon of justice for the LGBTQ community.
Sunnyside Church, where worship is held each Sunday at 11 am, is the home of the Common Cup Family Shelter, and has long been involved in the fight to end homelessness. The congregation also hosts a community meal program, a neighborhood “swap shop,” and Camp Fire programs.
Rev. Currie, a contributor to The Huffington Post, is well known for his work to fight homelessness and poverty, and for his commitments to health care, women’s rights, LGBTQ equality, and opportunity and hope for workers. He has appeared on ABC's World News Tonight and been mentioned or quoted in The New York Times, The La Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, NPR, and is seen, heard or quoted frequently in local media.
