A Universal Peace Wheel is a cultural art form of kindness for all humanity.
The Universal Peace Wheel is a copper embossed cylindrical art form that visitors spin, sending billions of wishes for world peace into the world. It is designed in the Tibetan Prayer Wheel tradition, featuring copper embossed cultural symbols of peace from all over the world.
The wheel can hold 1 Billion traditional Sanskrit mantras (Om Mani Padme Hum, reproduced on microfilm), and will go inside the wheel with 1,000 handwritten peace statements already collected from local students. When visitors turn the peace wheel, billions of wishes for peace and healing go out into the world.
The Universal Peace Wheel has been recognized by the National Endowment of the Arts and the Nevada Arts Council for excellence in art and cultural landscape.
To date we have raised all funds needed to build and install the wheel within the Elko Peace Park. We now need $35,000 to purchase microfilm to go inside the wheel.
We also seek celebrity peace statements, some of which will be displayed on the information wall next to the wheel to inspire visitor’s to turn the wheel.
Over one million dollars has been raised from public and private donations for the construction of the 9-acre Elko Peace Park that protects the 8-mile creek, a riparian corridor in Elko, Nevada located off Highway 80, exit 300. The park includes a pet-friendly trail system, two bridges, a xeriscape demonstration garden, a Labyrinth, Emblem of the Medicine Wheel, Universal Peace Wheel, picnic areas, and bathrooms.
The Elko Peace Park is located on Mitry Ave and Ruby Visa, across the street from the Women’s Shelter and the Elko County State Building where 80 employees assist welfare, parole, and mental health clients.
