United Way of Morris County Alternative Spring Break 2010
Martha Wakamatzu fundraising for United Way of Morris County
Students will be traveling March 5-14 to New Orleans to continue to rebuild homes for folks displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
Hello Everyone:
Thank you for visiting my website!
I volunteered in my community throughout my high school experience. Being from a large Latin community, more often than not I was to assist individuals who in some way faced the challenges of being minorities; individuals who not only needed translators but also people who would spread awareness of the challenges they faced. This experience has taught me the value of volunteering; how it is an opportunity to learn how to teach others about the needs of particular groups for people, who by some force have suffered from social or environmental perils. I view the Alternative Spring Break experience in the same way. It is an opportunity to experience and learn about the challenges of another group of individuals who are also in need of assistance.
"Almost four and a half years later, only 50% of the population has been
able to return to their homes." -Laura Tan (United Way)
During the spring of 2010, I will be traveling to New Orleans to help rebuild homes and resolve this issue with a group of students from Drew University. Your donations will help cover our trip's expenses and the rest will be donated to United Way. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Please help us!
Thank you all for your time!
