UCSB Environmental Media Initiative

On December 6, I am running in the California International Marathon to raise money for and awareness of UC Santa Barbara's Environmental Media Initiative, which supports activities related to research, public programming, and education.

One of the major projects of this initiative is DigitalOcean, a virtual commons that connects existing and new communities of scientists, educators, students, policy makers, media specialists, and ocean enthusiasts to provide them with resources to advance ocean sustainability and protect Earth's ocean ecosystems. Additionally, the initiative supports GreenScreen and BLUE HORIZONS, programs where student filmmakers learn to critically analyze how environmental issues are framed in a wide range of media and to translate science to media by exploring how to tell compelling stories about science that inform, inspire, and make a difference. The Environmental Media Initiative is housed within the Carsey-Wolf Center for Film, Television, and New Media. Other partners include the Bren School for Environmental Science & Management and the Marine Science Institute.
