TCGIS is a K-8 charter school which currently serves 323 students in grades K – 8. It is on a fast growth track to serve 370 students in grades K – 8 by 2014. The school delivers instruction entirely in German, until 3rd grade when an hour a day is added in English. The students learn Spanish in 5th grade. Throughout their entire time at TCGIS, students learn about and gain appreciation for active world citizenship.

The school is a tuition free Minnesota public school and is based in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood. It has been recognized as an official Partnerschool by the German government, which currently funds half a teacher salary and has recently approved to fund have an additional teacher fully. Of the 1,126 schools that received a Multiple Measurements Rating from the state Department of Education in 2012, the Twin Cities German Immersion School scored very high, with a 96.82 MMR score, the 17th highest in the state. TCGIS is one of a handful of German immersion schools in the country and is said to be the fasting growing one of its kind in the nation. Locally, the school is sponsored by the German American Institute.
