We are raising money for the education of the 58 orphans cared for at the CCC orphanage in Uvira, the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In June 2011 and June 2012, a team from National Community Church in Washington, DC traveled to work with the Congo For Christ Center (CCC) orphanage in Uvira, Democratic Republic of Congo. We fell in love with the staff, the villagers, and church members. But most of all, we fell in love with the children: 58 orphans cared for by CCMC and many many children from the neigboring village.
Although many of us hope to return to Uvira in June 2013, we wanted to do something for the orphans now, while we wait. In October 2011, we ran the Tough Mudder race to raise funds so that every orhpan at the center could afford the fees and supplies needed to attend public school for a semester.
This year, we've got bigger goals: school fees and supplies for every orphan for the entire 2012-2013 school year. In order to do this, we are going to run the Tough Mudder event again, on September 8 in Maryland (http://toughmudder.com/events/mid-atlantic-2012/). There are no ski slopes this year, but there are still plenty of tough obstacles over a 12 mile course (http://toughmudder.com/flash_course_map/mid-atlantic-2012/map.swf). As we know from last year, it's so hard to train for and finish this race, but we're doing it because we love these kids and we want them to be equipped to be the future leaders of Congo. We are not doing this because we are crazy (although that is likely true as well), but because we hope our craziness will inspire our friends, family, and anyone else to contribute to support our friends, the orphans at CCC.
Our fundraising goal is $7500 for a very specific reason:
- $4176 for school fees for 48 primary school students and 10 secondary school students
- $3322 for the required school uniforms and other supplies
I sponsor four of these little guys. Please help us help these wonderful children!
