This past year I have really been struggling between a desire to do well in my job as a store manager with Starbucks and an ever-present and growing understanding that there is something more, that there has always been something more.

I made a deal with the Lord—you know, one of those things you never expect to actually happen—that when I left Starbucks I would pursue full-time ministry. After several months of double-digit year-over-year percentage in sales growth something happened. I found the target of a political coup, of sorts, that had me looking to leave the company.

Over breakfast with a friend I was reminded of my bartering with God and was posed the question: "Why don't you be a protege?" I began to reply but found I had no answer. It was time to put that promise to the test.

For the next year I will be a protege with NCC, which is a program that has you work as an unpaid staff member while also going through an intense journey of mentoring and discipleship. My time will be split between kids ministry and media (video, graphic design, and web).

As I explained above, this is an unpaid position, which is where you come in. I am not looking for people to simply throw money my way as I raise funds to support my living expenses for one year in DC. Rather, I am looking for friends who can be a part of this journey with me, sharing in both the sacrifices and blessings that are certain to come.

This is a big life change and not a day goes by that I do not question my motives, worthiness, and clarity of mind in jumping headfirst into this new season.
