Committed to making a real difference in the lives of at-risk children.
Twenty-seven years ago, Tom and Louise went to Jamaica for their honeymoon. This summer, they are returning with their daughters, Paige and Erin, to volunteer at JASY camp in Kingston, Jamaica. Paige and Erin have been on several mission trips with our church, but this will be our first as a family.
Our favorite part about mission trips is helping other people and making a difference in their lives. JASY is a week-long sports camp for under-priveleged children who basically live in the dumps surrounding Kingston, Jamaica. We realize how important sports can be in teaching about teamwork, leadership, determination and positive attitudes.
“The children who have attended the JASY camps truly appreciate the experience as the activities have had an uplifting effect on their lives physically, emotionally and spiritually. Some of the youth have begun to see life from a different perspective, not just poverty; and besides putting a smile on their faces it has given them a chance to use their God-given talents. One of the major problems in Jamaica is that there is a lack of hope that anything will get better and JASY offers these young people a spirit of hope and love. The friendships that have been formed, the bonds that have been cemented will be life-long for the people in Riverton. God Bless JASY!” Msgr. Richard Albert, Founder St. Patrick's Foundation, Jamaica.
Every child has a dream and a desire to be all that he or she can be. Sponsoring JASY camp will help us change the lives of these campers and hopefully be a life changing experience for our family.
