The Memory Project (www.memoryproject.org) invites art students to create portraits for kids around the world who have been disadvantaged.

The Memory Project is a unique initiative in which art students create portraits for children and teens around the world who have been orphaned, abandoned, neglected, or otherwise disadvantaged. To do this, the artists receive pictures of children who are waiting for portraits. The artists then create the portraits, and we coordinate the delivery of the portraits to the children. The goal of the project is to inspire caring and a positive sense of self.

This is a fantastic program. We have been participating for several years and it has been exciting to see how much it has grown. The benefits to children around the world-- both the artists and the orphans--brings us all closer together.

My ARt Club sponsored five children from Peru last year and even though they come from challenging backgrounds, they wanted to make portraits to give these children some happiness. It was so rewarding, especially seeing them receive their portraits and how excited they were. Thank-you for the opportunity to do this, Mr. Schumaker
