Make a lasting gift this holiday season. Give the gift of strong schools and healthy outcomes for generations of young scholars.

The gift you’re about to give isn’t a gift you can wrap, but it is a transformative gift that will change the lives of Charleston County children. The gift won’t cost more than the standard “white elephant” gift, but it isn’t about the cost; it’s about the impact your gift will make.

As you may have experienced yourself, it is difficult to raise a child, much less a healthy child in impoverished conditions – even the most heroic child-rearing is likely to fail in these conditions. However, by bringing the Charleston community together we can overcome the most devastating conditions children in our community face.

Charleston Promise Neighborhood’s mission is to concentrate community-based services in the most poverty stricken areas of Charleston County, where poverty and unemployment are many times higher than the national averages, education and student achievement fall well below U.S. and regional levels, and medical poverty is well above 60%.

The majority of the services CPN provides funding for are conveniently available to children and families at four Neighborhood schools. For example, the Medical University of South Carolina provides school-based pediatric care, Trident United Way coordinates basic and urgent needs assistance (mental health, emergency financial assistance, etc.) and Charleston County School District collaborates with CPN to strengthen the quality of instructional delivery. In addition, CPN brings in over forty innovative community-based nonprofits, businesses and experts to engage students in afterschool learning.

While we have a solid foundation of services to improve classroom learning, and meet the non-academic needs of children, students need more time during the school year to “catch up.” This is something our teachers and principals have requested, because the majority of our students are beginning the school year one to two years behind in grade level standards.

This year CPN is going “Beyond the Bell” to provide one K-8th grade school innovative learning that expands the school schedule to 5:30pm daily. This $350,000 project is part of CPN's multi-faceted approach to strengthening Neighborhood schools with the goal of accelerating each child's academic performance and overall well-being.

But, we need your help to make this possible for all of our students. For donation as low as $12.50 you can give the gift of innovative learning "Beyond the Bell.” This small amount will provide one child afterschool enrichment for one week. A week consist of personalized learning, a meal, homework help, and two blocks of daily learning that ranges from karate and robotics to business development and graphic design.

What are you waiting for? Donate now to give the gift that literally gives back. Give the gift of education and support your local community. You'll enjoy the feeling... almost as much as our scholars enjoy learning!
