The Torpedo Factory Art Center Board's mission is to to foster connections between artists and people that ignite the creative spirit.
Can you imagine 40 years have passed since the Torpedo Factory Art Center first opened to the public?!
Indeed, it all began in the early 1970’s, when founder Marian Van Landingham approached the City of Alexandria with an innovative plan: to transform a vacant waterfront building, once used as a torpedo factory, into a hub of artistic and community activity.
The Torpedo Factory was one of the first of its kind in the country and has served as a model for other arts organizations around the country and the world.
Over time, a plethora of locally-owned, small businesses sprang up in response to the needs of the many visiting neighbors and out-of-towners. Our flourishing neighborhood literally grew up around us.
Today, we are an anchor of Alexandria’s Waterfront, a source of local pride and a premier destination for over half a million visitors a year.
As we move into a new era, we celebrate our past and honor the adventurous spirit of our founding members by opening new avenues by which you and others can participate in all the Center has to offer.
Please join us in this remarkable year of celebration by making a tax-deductible donation to the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
Your gift will enable the legacy of this significant community resource to continue to thrive for another 40 years and many more thereafter.
Thank you for your continued support of the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
