Teri Fuels Sports 4 Slum Kids
Teri Nevins fundraising for FUEL THE MISSION CORP
I'm running my 2nd marathon, the Phoenix Marathon on 3/2/13 to help raise money and awareness for children in the slums of southeast India.
Hundreds of kids from the slums of southeast India show up weekly to learn to play soccer from caring Christian coaches. Over time, the kids begin to trust and rely on their coaches, who lead with compassion and grace. They learn about Jesus and say YES to the gospel message after a practice or a game.
Born into extreme poverty in a Hindu caste culture, these kids begin to have hope for the first time in their lives. They embrace the tools for change, boldly moving beyond their helplessness into a promising future. Their Christian coaches encourage them every step of the way.
Today they play soccer on a dirt field bordered by human waste and filth, with the sounds and smells of idol worship and squalor. One day their surroundings could be vastly different, even perhaps like yours and mine.
