TEMO FOUNDATION INC
Temo Foundation helps Isla Urbana build rainwater harvesting systems for low income families who go 2-3 months without water in MX City.
Water, the world’s most vital resource, is too commonly absent in the lives of families around the world. Isla Urbana is facilitating the widespread adoption of rainwater harvesting, a sustainable solution to the world’s water problems.
884 million people around the world lack access to clean drinking water. In Mexico City, where Isla Urbana is implementing its first project, 8 million residents suffer from inadequate water supply, many of them waiting weeks or months for a single drop of water to fall from the faucet. At Isla Urbana we believe that water scarcity is far too common; yet, there is a solution.
Our team has developed a low cost, easy-to-install rainwater harvesting system which is installed on individual households. These RWH systems provide a family with about 50% of their annual water need. We are developing a method of widespread implementation of rainwater harvesting in Mexico City, Mexico. This implementation method includes training local plumbers, using only local materials, and working closely with the beneficiaries to train them on the maintenance and use of their system. Isla Urbana’s RWH systems are low-cost, are installed in about one day, are easy to maintain, and provide clean water for all household uses.
Isla Urbana is a collaborated project the non-profit NGO’s, the International Renewable Resources Institute (IRRI),located in Mexico City, Mexico, and TEMO Foundation, a 501(c)3 located in Dallas, TX, USA. We are a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, urbanists, and sociologists who work closely with our community, local businesses, non-profits, NGO’s, and the Mexico City government to facilitate the widespread adoption of rainwater harvesting as a viable solution to the water crisis.
