In loving memory of our Mom!
A sprint triathlon is a .5 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 3.2 mile run. That is nothing compared to the 2 1/2 year long battle our mother endured with Ovarian Cancer that ultimately took her life on June 28, 2007. She fought with grace and dignity and a strength unknown to most. We hope to utilize that courage and strength in her memory as we race on October 16th, 2011 at the SheRox triathlon in San Diego.
We want to bring a message of awareness to a disease that takes the lives of 15,000 women in the US each year. Wives, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends. The mortality rates for ovarian cancer have not improved in thirty years since the “War on Cancer” was declared. However, other cancers have shown a marked reduction in mortality, due to the availability of early detection tests and improved treatments. Unfortunately, this is not the case with ovarian cancer, which is still the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers. It is our hope to race in her memory, to raise money to help find a cure, and work toward a way to detect this disease early enough so that the survival rate is increased.
This is not a fundraiser where we get free training or a free trip to San Diego, all the money we raise goes directly to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund! Please join us in supporting this cause.
