Educational inequity is our nation’s greatest injustice. Children’s educational opportunities are largely determined by their socio-economic status. Nevada ranks last in high school graduation rate, and educational inequity is impacting the lives of thousands of students growing up in the low-income communities throughout our state.

Clark County School District has one of the lowest graduation rates of any urban center in the United States and Nevada is the lowest performing state education system in the country. In a school district of 300,000 students (70% of the state’s children), 44% graduated in 2008 and only 10% went on to complete a 4-year college degree on time.

Teach For America • Las Vegas Valley is committed to improving our community through working alongside other excellent educators and partners to end educational inequity. Our mission is to build the movement in the Las Vegas Valley and across the nation to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our most promising future leaders in the effort. We recruit, train, and support a corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit to teach for at least two years in underserved schools and to work throughout their lives to advocate for systemic educational reform from all sectors.
