Pledge $$ per mile of my 221-mile hike, spurring me to finish it!! And also give a PhD graduation present!!
Since I recently became a doctor, but not the useful kind, I thought it would be a decent thing to do (also since I have never fundraised or really volunteered much, ever =/) to ask all y'all to pledge to my hike!
As a graduation present to myself I decided to hike the John Muir Trail in California (http://www.pcta.org/about_trail/muir/over.asp) along with my good friends Tamara and Diane. I didn't really have time to do ask you this before, what with last-minute revisions of my dissertation and all, but would you mind contributing some $$ per mile for this fine organization, which I hope to participate in sometime next year when I am traveling around the world? (I am trying to construct for myself a charmed life. :)
As an alternative, there are two more organizations I would like to contribute to, http://www.ihelpliberia.org/ and http://defineamerican.org/. The first was started by a dear teacher from high school, and I hope to travel to Liberia as a science teacher next year. The second I just care about a lot and I think it's a travesty that the law is this way.
I don't know how to sum all the donations from you for all these causes. I don't have time to find out before my hike tomorrow =/. But I promise if you send money through this website, or through the links above and tell me, or directly to my PayPal (find me at email@example.com on Paypal, I am a verified account), I will post the total and thank each and every one of you when I return from my journey.
You can also follow me on my new tumblr, http://tatistravels.tumblr.com. I hope I'll periodically get enough reception up in the high mountains to post. There will be elevation, mosquitoes, unusually high rushing streams to ford, and still, on the especially high passes, snow. Pray for us if you feel so inclined, and hope to see you on the other side!!
