Taking Northfield History to the Next Level
A project of NORTHFIELD HISTORICAL SOCIETY INC
The goal of our "Next Level" campaign is to make the Scriver Building, home to the Northfield Historical Society accessible everyone!
The goal of the Northfield Historical Society’s " Next Level " campaign is to make the Scriver Building, a 19th-century structure that houses the NHS, a more accessible facility by installing an elevator, on-grade access, and six restrooms. For the past 35 years the Northfield Historical Society has made great strides in restoring the Scriver Building, a national landmark and the city's first stone building. Today the Scriver Building welcomes some 10,000 visitors annually who tour the museum, conduct research, and benefit from numerous programs. The limestone building was built by Hiram Scriver, one of Northfield’s earliest merchants, in 1868. It has since housed more than 50 local businesses, including the First National Bank that the infamous James-Younger Gang attempted to rob in 1876.
