The senior class at SWCHS is going on a missions trip in November to the DR. It will be a life changing experience.

Who: Senior Class – Southwest Christian High School (SW) has been going to the Dominican Republic for 8 years. There are 42 students in your class. We are going to be working with Youth With a Mission (YWAM). Put your name (first and last) and personal contact information at the bottom of the letter in case people have questions. Four teachers will chaperone.

What: Serving alongside YWAM and their missionaries and ministries. Each year the trip varies somewhat, but generally we will have several work days, a few other ministry opportunities which may involve a street evangelism gathering, visiting an orphanage or two, or visiting a batey (sugarcane village) to share the gospel and play with the children. We will also have the opportunity to do some touristy activities like bartering for souvenirs in a covered market and spending an afternoon at the beach. For the past several years SW’s work projects have been at Casa de Luz (House of Light), a small orphanage for about 25 handicapped children. SW has developed quite a bond with this orphanage and the children there, most of whom cannot walk, talk or feed themselves. The work projects at the orphanage vary but always include some painting. The exterior always needs another coat of paint due to the salty air and SW usually paints a mural somewhere. We plan, Lord willing, to spend two to three days at Casa de Luz again this November. We are also planning on taking a doctor and physical therapist along with us for the third time to work with the children at this orphanage.

Where: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. DR shares the island Hispaniola with Haiti in the Caribbean.

When: November 15-22, 2011

Cate is paying for 30%, raising 30%, and mom/dad are supporting the rest.
