Music Changes Lives! The symphony funds education concerts, youth symphony, & elementary violin lessons in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Valley Symphony Orchestra (VSO) supports a 75 member youth symphony. The youth symphony is made up of middle and high school students from across the lower Rio Grande Valley. Youth symphony members are not charged to participate in the symphony. All graduating high school seniors are given a college scholarship.
The (VSO) also supports an early violin program. Students, beginning in first grade, study violin with VSO violinists. They learn to play the violin using the Suzuki method. The program provides each student with a violin, all materials, a weekly 30 minute private lesson, and a weekly 30 minute group lesson. Students are accepted to the program based on the family's commitment to study the violin, regardless of the family's ability to pay for lessons.
