United Way's Alternative Spring Break gives me the opportunity to spend spring break giving back to communities. Check out the video!
As a United Way professional, I feel fortunate to get the chance to join amazing college students who choose to spend their spring break helping rebuild communities with United Way's Alternative Spring Break (ASB). I've been a part of ASB for two years now, and each year is a new and equally amazing experience.
This year I'll be leading a team of students from Drew University down to New Orleans to help rebuild the Gulf Coast. Approaching the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, St. Bernard Parish, just east of New Orleans, still continues to rebuild homes and lives and needs our help.
The recent disaster in Haiti has broadcast pictures of destruction and suffering around the nation and inspired many of us to take action. Not only has it motivated me to donate to relief efforts in Haiti, but it has also reminded me that disaster recovery is a long-term process - areas hit by disaster need our help long after the news cameras stop rolling.
The money you donate helps cover transportation, food and lodging costs for the group for the week. I am very excited to spend my week learning about the amazing city of New Orleans and helping their community as much as I can.
Thank you so much for your support! Please feel free to pass my page along to anyone and everyone that might be able to help.
Thank you!
