United Way Alternative Spring Break gives students like me the opportunity to spend my spring break making a difference.

The recent disaster in Haiti has broadcast pictures of destruction and suffering around the nation and inspired many of us to take action. The Haiti disaster has reminded me of areas recently hit by disasters need our help long after the news cameras stop rolling.

So, I've decided to trade my bathing suit for a tool belt this spring and team up with United Way to make a meaningful impact rebuilding the Gulf Coast. Approaching the five year anniversary of Katrina, St. Bernard Parish, just east of New Orleans, still continues to rebuild homes and lives and needs our help.

I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to lend a hand and spend a week volunteering and hope you will support me in my endeavor. Thanks for your support. Please feel free to pass along my page to anyone and everyone that might be able to help.

Thank you!

Jacob: As your 'favorite' aunt, I'm very proud of you and what you are going to do on your spring break. You are a very nice young man and should be proud of yourself! Keep up the good work.
