Hey All:

My love of music has shaped my life. It was especially important to me when I was a teenager. It helped me express complex personal thoughts and connected me to allies.

Making music makes you feel powerful. Sharing music breaks down isolation. That's why I've commited to sustaining Girls Rock! RI. The best thing GRR! does is to use music creation to give girls and women the opportunity to be brave and support each other.

I always get a bit verklempt at the Girls Rock Camp Final showcase.

Seeing adolescent girls hold the attention and Rock a huge crowd with a song they made up together with insturmetns they picked up 5 days ago, is just incredible. Most importantly standing in that motley crowd I feel the audience's commitment to creating a world where gender is seen as an asset not a limitation. And that is a place where my heart wants to dwell.

2012 was an incredible year of growth for us:

We gave 23 Girls Rock Campers more than $6000 in scholarships. Campers went on to perform their original songs in front of an audience of nearly 500 people! Our programs reach young women at a critical stage in their development and help them to thrive through musical expression.

We hired our first part-time staff member AND moved into a shared office space at 186 Carpenter Street- a year-round home where we can hold events!

With your help girls are standing up, standing out, and rocking! We are breaking down barriers and providing an audience for music made by girls and women. And we are not done yet!

We have a big year planned for 2013:

• Expanding Girls Rock Camp to 50 girls (nearly double our first camp!)
• Starting a Counselor-in-Training program for returning campers
• Hosting two Ladies Rock Camps
• Expanding our Girls Get Loud After School program to more sites
• Continued monthly learning opportunities at Rock Lab!
