United Way Alternative Spring Break gives students like me the opportunity to spend my spring break making a difference.

The recent disaster in Haiti has broadcast pictures of destruction and suffering around the nation and inspired many of us to take action. Not only has it motivated me to donate to relief efforts in Haiti it has also reminded me that areas hit by disasters need our help long after the news cameras stop rolling.

So, I've decided to trade my bathing suit for a tool belt this spring and team up with United Way to make a meaningful impact building houses along the Texas border. Students will collaborate with the Lower Valley Housing Corporation and the families that the organization serves to build homes. We will be gone March 13th-20th and hope to make a huge difference in the El Paso area.

I am about to graduate College and I would really like to use my last vacation before I start my career to help others and have the experience of knowing I made a big difference to a community.

Thank You!!
