Through the books supporters will be donating the women of the Akilah Institute will be able to enhance their English reading skills.
I was raised in a household in which women were celebrated and it was a known fact that women could do everything and anything that men could do. With that sense of empowerment I have always been proud to be a woman. From a young age my mother has told me stories of all the strong females in our culture, like Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks. Without knowing it she became the woman that I was most inspired to emulate. When she came to me asking if I wanted to help out a school of women in Rwanda that who are training to work in the hospitality industry, I of course jumped at the opportunity. My goal with this fundraiser is to help Project Akilah enhance their library for the women. I would like to fill it with books that have strong women characters to show these women what is possible. Earlier this year a Michelle Obama biography was sent to Africa and the women loved it. I want the women to be proud of who they are and feel empowered to stay in school and to keep dreaming.
