The Idealware Research Fund supports independent research and reporting on technology trends through the lens of nonprofit use and adoption.
If I happen to have said or done something smart or useful about technology recently, it has no doubt partly reflected my association with Idealware.org.
Idealware gathers a small group of experienced, committed, forward-looking technologists to independently advise nonprofits on software. We talk about what works, what will still work in the future, what smart organizations most need to meet goals and affect social change, how to be self-reliant in using software, how to navigate licensing and open source.
I got involved with Idealware because, as you know, I am passionate about these things. I serve on the board, contribute to the blog, and do all kinds of other behind-the-scenes stuff. I get to work with Laura Quinn, Idealware Executive Director, other lively staff, and an amazing board. See more at http://www.idealware.org
A nonprofit itself, Idealware sometimes calls itself the "consumer reports" of nonprofit software, and it is making a real difference now. With your help, maybe someday we'll be the Gartner of nonprofit software, or some other form of training institute or think tank.
Every week, we how much we all suffer from technology initiatives run amuck--security and privacy failures, wrong priorities, the wrong thing installed the wrong way, and everything else. Whether you directly connect to the nonprofit world, you have no doubt experienced or read about these things. Idealware helps nonprofits increase their success rate with technology, and that's something everyone can learn from.
Yup, I'd really like you to consider making a tax deductable contribution to the Research Fund. Please do it if you have use Idealware's terrific resources for free. Or do it if we have otherwise brainstormed, planned, conspired about or worked together technology issues, large or small, since some of what I bring comes from working with Idealware.
I very rarely get involved in fund-raising, so please accept that if I'm asking you, its important to me. For what we manage to do and the influence we have, Idealware is very small today: please know that your contribution of any size will make a difference.
And by the way, please also talk with me if you'd like to find out about how you could contribute some time to Idealware.
