On August 27, 2011, our good friend, Jackie Bayley, passed away after a heroic 2.5 year battle with ovarian cancer. She was only 34 years old.

Jackie's incredible fighting spirit through the horrific ordeal was a great inspiration to me and the countless other people who knew and loved her. Despite numerous set-backs and heartbreaking news along the way, Jackie always courageously took the next step in her battle. She ultimately was not able to defeat the cancer, but she has inspired us all to continue her fight by raising money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

In memory of Jackie, I am raising money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund by doing the Playmakers Classic Triathlon on September 10, 2011 and running the Detroit Marathon on October 16, 2011. This will be my third marathon, and I will use Jackie as an inspiration to try to achieve my best time.

At any moment during my training when I experience fatigue or pain, I will think about Jackie and how no matter what she faced, she couragously took the next step. My running will also be inspired by Jackie's husband, Andrew, who provided Jackie unyielding love and support through the 2.5 year battle they endured together.
