Team Running for Cover is running the 2013 Boston Marathon to raise funds to support MFNE's mission of education, prevention and support.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am honored and excited to be a part of the Melanoma Foundation of New England's Boston Marathon team.
This is my first marathon and I am running it in memory of my grandfather Kevin Sullivan who just recently passed away on December 5th with stage 4 melanoma at the age of 78.
He was first diagnosed two years ago when they discovered a lump on his back.
My Papa was a man driven by love. Always thinking of what he could do for other people, he became a significant influence on my life. The last months we had with our Papa were a huge blessing for us, we had that extra time with him because of new treatments and research made possible by organizations like the Melanoma Foundation of New England.
I will run this marathon to honor my Papa, but I am also running it to say thank you to all those people who supported him over the past 24 months. I am also running it so maybe I can help in some way to future discoveries and treatments that may extend someone’s life a little longer.
It is through these programs, where we, his family saw hope come alive, and it was because of these programs that my Papa had a better shot at life. Whereas programs, such as the MFNE, provide advocacy, and support, they also provide the possibility of having a little bit more time with those you love.
I am asking friends and family to consider sponsoring me for this event. I have committed to fundraising $4,000. This money will go directly towards the Melanoma Foundation of New England, as they continue to support, educate, and to prevent the spread of Melanoma, so that families, like mine, will have hope.
The Melanoma Foundation of New England works to reduce the incidence of melanoma in New England, through education, and early detection. They also work to support those battling with Melanoma through providing support groups, advocacy, and educational programs.
