Day One is Maine's leading agency preventing and treating youth substance abuse.
While in high school, I was fortunate enough to be in a group called Natural Helpers, which was organized through Day One. The Natural Helpers program is rooted in the natural network of ‘teens helping teens’ that exists in every school. This helps to create an environment of respect and personal responsibility within the school community and strengthens the educational environment.
I was a member of my schools group for all 4 years of high school, and was able to work along Norm and Cindy (Day One employees) in a Natural Helpers Southern Maine Community. My experience opened my eyes to so many different outlooks on life, and broadened my thoughts on the world. Through Day One and Natural Helpers, I was able to attend an educational retreat each year, that I will forever hold close to my heart as some of the best experiences and memories of high school.
Day One offers so much to help Maine youth in overcoming the odds and making the best out of their lives. This organization has stayed with me past high school and college into the working world, sparking my interest in community programs and helping out organizations any way I can.
This organization truly cares and opens its doors to anyone in need of help. I'm raising money to help them continue to be a positive impact on Maine's youth, and to be able to continue great educational programs such as Natural Helpers, so children today can have the experiences I once had.
