It's a traveling edible exhibit that teaches urban kids how healthy food is grown.

UPDATE: Thanks to our amazing community, we have reached our minimum goal for the campaign! We are still accepting donations to support the small, but ongoing cost of the program (gas, insurance, fertilizer, staff, etc) but we now have enough to launch the program, and hope to be growing by April 15. Thank you for making this happen!

The Truck Farm project is a mini garden planted in the bed of a pick up truck that will serve as a tool to teach urban youth about healthy eating and to get them interested in where their food comes from. The truck will visit all of the youth agencies serviced by DC Central Kitchen and hour long lessons will be conducted at each site.

Your donations will allow us to purchase and outfit a used truck for the project.

Goals:

  • To increase meal participation rates in DC Public Schools
  • To spread tangible awareness about where food comes
  • To create excitement about growing food

It's a great idea. Make sure that you bring some healthy, tasty treats made primarily of locally-grown ingredients to help the kids realize that healthy doesn't have to be yucky or boring. Hopefully the truck will be fuel efficient, or better yet, use alternative fuels.
