STARS provides caring adult mentors to children and youth in eastern Faribault County, Minnesota, who are in need of guidance and support.
Imagine that you are a young boy, struggling in life. Perhaps you don't feel you can succeed in school. Nobody wants you to be on their team. There may be problems in your family life or you might feel like you don't have many friends. Every day is a challenge.
Then the STARS coordinator introduces you to a new friend, an adult who wants to do fun things with you, even though you're not related. He listens to you without judging. He takes you places you've never been before and teaches you things you want to learn. He doesn't criticize you. He helps you and he makes you feel like you can succeed. You smile more now. You have hope for the future.
Mentoring uses the power of friendship to help kids succeed, to ensure that they stay in school, learn positive social skills, and make healthy lifestyle decisions. You can help by becoming a mentor or making a donation. For more information, contact Carolyn at 877-232-8399 or starsforkids@yahoo.com.
