Imagine a world where all kids could...
Peacemaker Resources and the Northwest Minnesota Foundation believe that this kind of world IS possible!
STAR (Students Teaching Attitudes of Respect) is an innovative program that mobilizes the POWER OF YOUTH by teaching THEM to BE THE TEACHERS of peace skills. A STAR Team from Bemidji presented "And the Children Will Lead Us: Youth as Teachers of Peace Skills" at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum at Augsberg College in 2012!
"I have invested time and energy in STAR because it works…I look forward to the years ahead as more and more students are trained and exposed to the teaching – the ripple effect continues both in the elementary and our high school as my sixth graders move upstairs to seventh grade. They have already asked what they can do next year to help out the older kids." --6th Grade Teacher
"STAR Team taught me to stand up for what is right, even if it means standing alone."
"STAR Team taught me to decide your words carefully and be a little nicer to my brother."
"The students get a better understanding and receive information better when they see older students speaking about bullying issues and feelings. It makes a bigger impact when older students share how to handle situations. --2nd Grade Teacher
STAR Teams are trained by Peacemaker Resources staff through the use of evidence-based practices that increase:
Research shows that these five core areas are crucial to socially and emotionally competent youth.
The STAR program enhances the efforts of schools to create a safe and respectful school environment and promotes social-emotional learning for all students.
STAR Teams teach skills that have a powerful ripple effect which can positively transform families and entire communities!
PEACEMAKER RESOURCES HAS SET A GOAL TO RAISE $3,900 WHICH WOULD COVER THE COSTS FOR A 6-PERSON STAR TEAM IN A SCHOOL FOR ONE YEAR.
