Michael Lisnow Respite Center is a place that provides emotional and physical support for individuals with disabilities and their families.
On April 15, 2013 I will have the privilege of running the Boston Marathon on behalf of the Michael Lisnow Respite Center in Hopkinton, MA. The center provides a number of programs from weekend camps, to after-school programs, to adult day programs and employment support for persons with disabilities.
I am very blessed to have two wonderful children, Dominic & Sara. When they both were in school full time, I decided it was time to focus more on healthy living. I had never been much of a runner and it wasn't until a few years ago that I decided to really commit to it. It started off as a way to be more active and has turned in to something that I love doing. It gives me time to decompress, ponder things going on in my life and a way to relieve stress.
My very first race was Michael's Run which is in memory of Michael Lisnow whom the center is named after. Michael's Run has become a family event and we have been going for the past 8 years. I have run several other 5k's, a 10k and last year I completed my first half marathon. The next logical step for me was a marathon and living in Hopkinton I had it in the back of my mind that if and when I do a marathon it will be Boston.
I received an opportunity to help out with Michael's Run this year and am truly blessed to have met the most amazing people in the process. Every time I visit I leave with a smile and wonder what else I can do to help. When the opportunity presented itself to be able to run the Boston Marathon on behalf of the Respite Center I jumped at the chance. I had always thought that completing the Boston Marathon was strictly a personal goal but it has become so much more than that.
The money that I raise contributes 100% to scholarships supporting families who are unable to cover the costs associated with assisted care. Please help me support such a wonderful place and extraordinary people. Your generous tax deductible donations are greatly needed and are truly appreciated.
Thank you so very much for your support!!
