The photo below is a group of Knar School alumni, who are now in 11th and 12th grade.

We are humbled by the tenacity of many of the students who have finished primary school at Tchey, Knar and Wat Bo School and continued to pursue their education into secondary school with no assistance from us but uniforms and supplies. When Khmer children and their families are living in poverty, they face many obstacles in the pursuit of education.

Secondary School is only free for the first half of the day. After that, students must pay their teachers for private tutoring in order to get a complete education and be able to pass the 12th grade exam for the diploma. In this way, poor students do not have an equal chance for success.

Until the Cambodian school system changes, we need to play by these rules and support these students in their efforts to graduate. Here's the math:

$4-5 per subject per month. Most of them will take all 5 subjects; Khmer language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics. So, an average of $25 per month x 10 months is $250 per year.

In the school year 2011-12 we have over 400 students enrolled in lower and upper secondary school. The need for our 11th and 12th graders is especially urgent. Our goal this year is to get the 64 upper secondary students (grades 10-12) all in a full day of classes this year. The cost of this will be about $16,000 and we've raised about half of it.

Let's get our students on the road to a diploma~!

50% of the Cambodian population is under 20 years of age. The poor, rural children who strive to graduate secondary school deserve our assistance in order to position themselves at the head of those large numbers entering the work force in the next few years.
