HandsOn South Alabama mobilizes people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems across South Alabama.
HandsOn South Alabama has served as the Volunteer Action Center for the region for over 37 years and we are pleased to announce that we are expanding to include Mobile and Baldwin counties. Our current programs include:
ü Volunteer Recruitment and Referral services to local nonprofits in South Alabama
ü Volunteer Income Tax Assistance to low and middle income households serving 569 taxpayers in 2012 bringing more than $600,000 back to the community.
ü Volunteer Guardianship Program providing trained legal guardians to incapacitated individuals in Mobile County. This program is the only one of its kind in Alabama
ü Emergency Response Services; mobilizing volunteers in response to local disasters including the April tornados in North Alabama and Tuscaloosa
ü Training and support to local nonprofits and volunteers in our community
Recently we have seen a drop in local fundraising due to tough economic conditions a at the same time an increase in the need for volunteers at local agencies.
Each dollar donated is multiplied 5 times in the community.
A contribution to HandsOn South Alabama is unique in that it has a ripple effect throughout the community. We leverage the power of over 6000 volunteers to make an impact in all areas of need in our community including education, environment, economic stability, emergency preparedness and social and human services.
