SEWEE Association has a major impact on how students in the SC Lowcountry learn their science requirements by taking them outdoors to learn!

Sewee Earth Stewards is a proven 10-year program of the SEWEE Association that brings 5th and 7th grade students to our native habitats to learn their science and math requirements. They experience swamps and salt marshes through real-life experiments and investigation, all based on state education standards. We also bring students in grades K-12 to the Sewee Visitor & Environmental Education Center and the Waccamaw Environmental Education Center for one-day nature experiences. We work with Cape Romain, Waccamaw and EFH ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuges and Francis Marion National Forest on these educational efforts and also help with major biological and research projects on this public land.

This year we will engage students in new opportunities to provide scientific data through citizen-science activities. These activities give real data to agencies on what is happening in our ecosystem.

We also provide teacher professional development opportunities for all grade levels with information from real-life research activities. This helps teachers develop lessons using this data while they make students aware of significant research being done in our area.
