Planning and carrying out events that highlight needed changes in society and make the UU social justice voice heard is a big part of what we do.

We are grateful for your support of our efforts and welcome your participation.We are following in the footsteps of dedicated and visionary UUs like Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton, Pete Seeger, Margaret Sanger and many others who dedicated themselves to improving life for all people.

Our goals are to:

1. Build a lasting social justice organization.
2. Prepare UUs to do powerful social change work, using a reflection, action, collaboration approach.
3. Develop and bring a distinctly UU moral voice to the public square.
4. Wage campaigns in coalition with interfaith and secular partners to achieve winnable systemic social change.
5. Shift civic culture toward policies that serve the common good.

The Prairie Star District is MUUSJA's fiscal sponsor, and funders include the UU Service Committee and the First Universalist Foundation. Your memberships and individual gifts, as well as donations from UU congregations, provide our most significant funding. Many dedicated volunteers also contribute time to committees, events, and office tasks to assist the paid staffmember.

MUUSJA one of fifteen UU State Advocacy Networks

UU legislative ministries and state advocacy networks, including MUUSJA, are now active in 15 U.S. states, uuworld.org reports (pub. date 1/3/11). Donald Skinner, contributing editor of UU World magazine, offers timely coverage of state legislative ministries bringing UU values to the public arena, including information from a major new report on the state networks by the Rev. John Gibb Millspaugh. MUUSJA features prominently in the uuworld.org article, and we've been an active partner in growing the effectiveness of the "network of networks."

HIRE Minnesota Quarterly Coalition Meetings

HIRE Minnesota is working to ensure that public investments in infrastructure and renewable energy help lift people out of poverty, reduce racial disparities and contribute to healthier communities for all of us. MUUSJA participates in the HIRE Minnesota efforts.

Quarterly meetings engage coalition members, provide reports on our work, and invite community members and public leaders to work with us in creating structural changes that will result in consistent hiring equity. Check the MUUSJA website for upcoming meeting details. www.muusja.org
