SWB is a nonprofit organization that uses the amazing sport of soccer as a positive vehicle for change in the lives of marginalized youth around the world, inspiring under-served youth to overcome obstacles to achieve growth, inclusion, and personal success. The sport of soccer shaped who I am today, and I’m extremely excited to share my passion for soccer and life with the young Ugandan nationals and refugees growing up in Kampala.
As many of you know, soccer has been a part of me ever since I can remember. The memories that stand out most are my ones abroad. Throughout my soccer career I have been very fortunate to have traveled to different countries to play soccer. During my time Spain, Brazil, and Panama, it became easy to realize first hand the power of the sport and its positive impact on the local children.
Athletic competition has given me successes I never thought possible and rooted me in values that define my life. As part of this program I will be attending Uganda’s annual Youth Peace Festival. I will be helping children realize their potential on and off the field. If I was able to gain so much from the sport, imagine the impact soccer can have on the children of Kampala. My really good friend, Sara (in many of the pictures), is a Team Leader in Kampala and is spending a full year there. She blogs about here experienes and she reminds me every week that I would be perfect for this organization. This will get my foot in the door in learning about non-profits and perhaps make a career with it.
The festival takes place late December to early January and I just found out he was accepted to be a volunteer, however in order to do so, I need to raise funds to attend and support the program.
