NC wants to help give 10,000 children soccer balls by the 2010 World Cup!

North Carolina has some of the best soccer oppotunities in United States and it's time to spread our love for the game with the rest of the world.

Since 2007, the founder of GFI, Brett Maurer, has aided his organization in making an an impact in over 50 communities in 22 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, South America and Asia.

Many of the children GFI has reached have never played with a real soccer ball, instead they have only used improvised versions, such as condensed plastic bags, bunches of shirts and socks, or woven sticks with mud. These children encounter challenging situations every day, but soccer can increase ambition and optimism and promote positive change in their communities.

In the spirit of the South Africa World Cup, GFI has embarked on a global campaign to reach 10,000 children living in poverty by July 11, 2010. The passion and spirit for soccer in Africa is incredible, yet many children living there have never played with a proper soccer ball. With the World Cup being held in Africa for the first time ever, there is no better time to contribute to GFI and get involved in spreading soccer to everyone in the world.

Here in North Carolina, we are looking to take GFI to a whole new level. Not only do we want to help provide soccer balls to these children, we want to help supply them with proper equipment to keep them safe and to continue their love for the sport. I will be accepting donations for ANY (old or new) soccer equipment you would like to contribute to the cause:

-Cleats, tennis shoes (any type of athletic shoe)

-Socks

-Shinguards

-Shoe string

-Soccer clothing (t-shirts, shorts, old jerseys, hats..etc)

- Soccer Balls

- any other donations of equipment are greatly appreciated!!!
