SMS Kiva Club

Shocked by what they'd learned about global poverty in their social studies classes, a small group of middle school students has spent the past two years raising money and making loans to poor families trying to start businesses in the developing world.

To date, they've raised over $2,000 and have made loans to 123 different families in some of the poorest countries on earth. In the process, they've learned a ton about life in the developing world. They've also learned about loans, fundraising and microlending as a tool for promoting social justice.

Most importantly, they've learned that digital tools make it possible for even the youngest people to make a difference in the lives of the world's poor.

With your help, the SMS Kiva Club is hoping to raise $140 to pair with funds they've already raised to buy an iPod that they will raffle off at their school. All of the monies raised on the iPod raffle will go directly into the SMS Kiva Account and be loaned out before the end of the year.
